Sleep Apnea Treatments – Finding The Best Treatment

Obstructive sleep apnea is a condition in which a person’s breathing is impaired or blocked during sleep. It is typically caused by the collapse of the soft tissue in your throat. Often a person can completely stop breathing altogether for several seconds. For many unlucky individuals, this process can be repeated hundreds of times each night.

If you suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, waking up in the morning can be a frustrating experience as it may feel as if you jts fell asleep. There are, however, a few sleep apnea treatments that have been proven to effectively reduce most sleep apnea symptoms.

Sleep Apnea Machines

Sleep apnea machines, such as a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), help maintain air flow during the night. Typically a mask is worn over your nose or mouth while you sleep. These machines deliver a continuous stream of air into your nostrils. Since air is continuously flowing it helps to keep the airways open during the night.

Dental Devices

Recently dental devices have become increasingly popular. These appliance help keep your airways open by repositioning your tounge and jaw. While not as quite as effective as a CPAP machine, these dental devices can help you sleep more peacefully and allow for longer periods of rest.

Surgery

Surgery can be a possible outcome for more severe sleep apnea cases. Typically you would require surgery if you have a deviated septum, a noticeably smaller jaw which causes a sever overbite or if you have enlarged tonsils.

Living with sleep apnea can be a frustrating experience. Luckily there are a few viable sleep apnea treatments available. Always consult with your doctor prior to trying any technique promising better sleep.
